Maternal immune regulation of lactogenesis

چکیده
Abstract Breastfeeding has long been associated with health benefits for the infant. Breast milk is composed of essential nutrients and bioactive molecules shaping growth, immune development offspring. An optimal mammary gland (MG) during pregnancy critical to maintaining beneficial effects lactation. Nevertheless, how lactation process regulated by system remains largely unexplored. Our data reveal that commitment epithelial cells into milk-secreting accumulation T-bet +lymphoid cells, preferentially localized at proximity inside epithelium. Among +cells, we characterized an unconventional T cell population exhibiting common features gut CD8αα +intra-epithelial lymphocytes deriving from same thymic progenitor. Such thymus involution specific enrichment in precursor migrates MG pregnancy. These promote production expression β-casein, one main protein, resulting increase newborn weight. This work uncovers a previously unappreciated contribution adaptive Decoding regulation will allow understand profound transformation this compartment as primary nutritional source offspring may dysregulation could affect long-term newborns. was supported part intramural funds NIAID, NIH.

Exosomes: Mediators of Immune Regulation
Extracellular Vesicles, including exosomes, are small membrane fragments released from many cell types, like Mesenchymal Stem Cells (MSCs). They were recognized as a mechanism of intercellular communication. They can transfer proteins, lipids and nucleic acids to other cells. Thus, they have many physiological (angiogenesis, coagulation and tissue repair, etc.) and pathological (e.g. in autoimm...
متن کاملEffects of Maternal Immune System Status on Neonate’s Immune System
Background: This study evaluated the effects of the maternal immune system stimulation or suppression during the pregnancy on the development of the neonate’s immune system. Methods: A total of 20 female rats were divided into four groups. The groups were treated using Leishmania major, Salmonella typhimurium, Tacrolimus, and sterilized normal saline. The animals were mated after 3-time tr...

Th e aim of the present study was to evaluate the eff ect of ovine placenta extract, obtained by affi nity chromatography on immobilized wheat germ lectin, on mammogenesis, lactogenesis, and galactopoiesis in pregnant and lactating sheep. Placental extract (100 μg/mL protein concentration) was subcutaneously injected to pregnant sheep in days 1, 4, 7, 10, and 13 of the experiment (totally 10 mL...
متن کاملSymposium: Human Lactogenesis II: Mechanisms, Determinants and Consequences Physiology and Endocrine Changes Underlying Human Lactogenesis II
Lactogenesis stage II, the onset of copious milk secretion, takes place during the first 4 d postpartum in women and involves a carefully programmed set of changes in milk composition and volume. The evidence is summarized that progesterone withdrawal at parturition provides the trigger for lactogenesis in the presence of high plasma concentrations of prolactin and adequate plasma concentration...
متن کاملThe role of the maternal immune system in the regulation of human birthweight.
Human birthweight is subject to stabilizing selection. Large babies are at risk of obstetric complications such as obstructed labour, which endangers both mother and child. Small babies are also at risk with reduced survival. Fetal growth requires remodelling of maternal spiral arteries to provide an adequate maternal blood supply to the placenta. This arterial transformation is achieved by pla...
